Publishing Timescales
Created: 31 October 2024 Updated: 17 September 2025
We plan to update flood risk datasets every 3 months and coastal erosion risk datasets every 12 months. In 2025/26, flood risk updates will be less frequent as our new processes are established.
In 2025, the Environment Agency published new national risk information for flooding and coastal erosion. We have published:
17 December 2024: A ‘National assessment of flood and coastal erosion risk in England 2024’ report - this report is a summary of our new national flood risk assessment (NaFRA) data and our new National Coastal Erosion Risk Map (NCERM)
28 January 2025: New NaFRA data on ‘Check your long-term flood risk’ and available on the Defra Data Services Platform
28 January 2025: New NCERM on ‘Explore coastal erosion risk’, Shoreline Management Plan Explorer and available on the Defra Data Services Platform
25 March 2025: New NaFRA data including updated Flood Zones on ‘Flood Map for Planning’ and available on the Defra Data Services Platform
27 August 2025: New ‘Flood Zones plus Climate Change’ layer added to ‘Flood Map for Planning’ in place of existing present day and climate change rivers/sea with/without defences layers.
17 September 2025: New speed and hazard datasets for ‘Risk of flooding from surface water’ available on the Defra Data Services Platform
