Searching: Why is my search taking a long time to return results?
Created: 30 January 2024
Searches on the Defra Data Services Platform (DSP) take more time to return results if they match a large number of records. For example, searching for a broad term like ‘Environment’ can take a long time to run as we have many records that mention ‘Environment’ or that include ‘Environment’ as a category or theme.
A more narrow or refined search term will return a smaller number of records and so will display the results more quickly.
We are currently in the process of implementing revised search functionality which will make it easier to apply filters to narrow your search before you run it. We are also investigating search performance improvements to improve response times for broader searches.
