NCEA ‘Find Natural Capital Data’ search app launch
Date of Announcement: 5 June 2025
Defra’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) programme has launched a new ‘Find Natural Capital Data’ search app.
Announcement:
Defra’s Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) programme has launched a new ‘Find Natural Capital Data’ search app. The NCEA search allows users to find and access data and information relevant to taking a natural capital approach.
A natural capital approach is about considering the value of the natural environment for people and the economy. The new NCEA search service allows users to find data relevant to taking a natural capital approach from third party sources, with over 8000 records accessible through the service, and an increasing number of NCEA data, reports and other publications to be explored from a single digital location.
There are two methods to search for data: a ‘quick’ search based on entering keywords, and a ‘natural capital’ search based on selecting options from a new Natural Capital Vocabulary. Search results can be viewed as a list or on a map, where further filters can be applied. This gives users multiple options to refine their search results, allows searching using natural capital terminology and makes it easier to locate natural capital data. As part of this launch, there is a new NCEA webpage, offering insights into the NCEA’s work, with access to products, future developments, and latest news.

A dedicated FAQ section is available to provide further guidance and address common queries about the service.
