North Sea cod tagging data 1961 - 2015 and Plaice tagging data 1957 - 2005
Summary
North Sea cod and plaice tagging data with information about fish location, maturation, sea surface temperature (SST), length, weight and time of tagging, recapture. This data can be used to calculate the changes in cod or plaice fertility due to changes in temperature. This data set was generated for delivery on the EU H2020 Pandora project. Between 1961 and 2015, a total of 22,573 cod were tagged and released using either conventional marker-ID tags. From 1999 onwards, cod were also tagged using electronic Data Storage Tags (DSTs).Between 1957 and 2005, a total of 53,489 plaice were tagged and released, using variety of tags, e.g. Floy Anchor, Small Petersen Disc.

Lineage
Cod and plaice, suitable for tagging were caught using either research or commercially chartered fishing vessels. After each fish was tagged with a uniquely numbered conventional marker-ID tag, their length, weight, health state, release date and position were recorded before being released. From 1999 onwards, cod were also tagged using electronic Data Storage Tags (DSTs), which provide additional information that can be used to gain further insight into the fish’s behaviour. Release and recapture data of these tags were also captured to the `Cefas Tagged Fish Database`_. Although these data have been subject to quality assurance, the provided data does include known erroneous data (e.g. recapture position, time at liberty), some of which have been identified and marked as such. We have referenced the following document, because it gives key information about the dataset, including a map of the location. Hampton *et al* (2021).
