Catchment Sensitive Farming Air Quality Priority Areas

Summary

This is a spatial dataset that describes the priority areas for delivery of air quality advice from Catchment Sensitive Farming (CSF). This uses data created for the Nitrogen Futures project and data derived by JNCC summarising CEH critical load and critical levels data applied to SSSIs. The data shows those SSSIs where the critical load for nitrogen deposition and/or the critical level for ammonia are being exceeded. A 2km buffer has been applied around each site. The following sites have a 5km buffer to correspond with the area covered by the Shared Nitrogen Action Plan (SNAP) for the site: Fenn’s & Whixall Moss, Breckland, Epping Forest, Sefton Coast, Braunton Burrows.

Lineage

This dataset is the combined area covered by a number of input datasets, each representing relative risk of ammonia pollution to SSSI sites. These input data have been dissolved into a single polygon to represent the highest priority areas for CSFO advice to farmers on mitigating air quality issues. Datasets used; • Modelled ammonia concentrations – 1x1 km resolution (UKCEH, 2022) (OGL) • Site-relevant critical levels for exposure to Ammonia (UKCEH, 2017) (OGL) • SSSI spatial boundaries (Natural England, 2021) (OGL) • Critical load exceedances for Nitrogen - SSSI values (APIS Partners, 2019) (OGL) • Critical load exceedances for Nitrogen - SSSI boundaries (Natural England, 2019) (OGL)
