National Framework for Water Resources: Drivers of future public water supply demands
Summary
The drivers of public water supply demands (e.g. the amount of water required for population, climate change, environmental improvements etc) from 2025 to 2055 under a range of National Framework water resource modelling scenarios (Do Nothing, Low, Central and High) at national, regional water resource groups and water company water resource zone scale

Lineage
Future public water supply drivers over time (ending at 2055) were estimated across a range of potential future scenarios using the EA's National Framework water resources supply demand model. This uses both internally calculated data (volumes of water required for climate change and environmental improvements for specific scenarios) and third party data. Third party data includes water company water resource management plan 2024 (WRMP24) datasets that are publicly available online as well as additional data provided by water companies for use in the water resource modelling. This includes data at water company water resource zone scale on volumes of water required for climate change and environmental improvements as well as additional population forecasts. Water required for environmental improvements at high, central and low need scenarios are a provisional estimate calculated by the Environment Agency for the National Framework for Water Resources and are subject to change. Drivers are presented at national (England only), water resources regional group and water company water resource zone scale. Drivers for Water Resources West include relevant Welsh water resource zones.
