Marine biotoxin data measured within crab and lobster flesh taken from samples gathered from the Northumberland coast in 2021 and 2022
Summary
Measurements of marine biotoxin concentrations quantified in crab and lobster tissues sampled from North East England around the time of the crustacean mortality event(s) during 2021. Samples were collected from October 2021 to May 2022 to determine if toxins were present in tissues which may have impacted animal health.

Lineage
The following instruments and methods we used to determine the concentrations of chemicals within the samples. Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning (ASP) analysis by liquid chromatography (LC) with ultraviolet detection (LC-UV). Lipophilic toxins (LT) analysis by LC with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Paralytic Shellfish Toxins (PST) analysis by LC-MS/MS. The LC-MS/MS method for PST was formally validated and published for crab matrix and bivalve shellfish. The LT and ASP methods were only validated for bivalve shellfish. Caveats therefore relate to the use of an unknown method performance for ASP and LT toxins, due to lack of formal method validation.
